Bass should feel as if it’s coming from all over the room instead of from one specific corner.HIGH FIVE BASICS | Crystal Lake Important Dates If your subwoofer is placed accurately, you shouldn’t be able to reveal its location in a space. Listen carefully for where the bass provides the most boom texture while keeping details like speech and instruments balanced. Think of the sound travel as a feedback loop-what you’ll hear from the ground is equivalent to your seated position. Drop down on all fours and keep your head a knee’s length from the floor as you move around your room to experience the audio from different positions. Next, place your subwoofer on your primary listening seat, whether that’s a spot on your couch or chair. First, pull up a familiar bass-heavy song. If you don’t have access to a suite of audio measurement tools, you can still get your sound properly dialed in using the crawl test. But, in an “ideal” setup, you want the sub to blend in with the overall noise. Sound is subjective-you may prefer boomier audio or exceptional clarity in mids and highs, which is fine. This is not ideal for every room layout, because the corner can be too far from an optimal listening area or rattle off of nearby objects. Many people are quick to place their subwoofer into a corner by default to both keep it out of the way and increase the subwoofer’s volume. Theoretically, it can be placed anywhere in the room and drastically punch up your sound. This omnidirectional speaker emits sound in all directions. The subwoofer is responsible for handling the low-frequency bass sounds, which create deep booms and rumbles (think explosions or the acceleration of a car engine).
